| the best one i got was around 200 and it was from the texas renassance festival as for what you should look for: carbon steel, full tang |

| I think you would need to get an original one from a japanese smith, if you want true quality...
I can't imagine how expensive those are. |

never said I was.....But I do use em.
My fav is the Kanja Taeko Fujiwara blade...said to cut the very souls of men.

| Cheap authentic katanas still run in the thousands. Like Ars said, you'd likely end up having to commission one from a Japanese smith, and the waiting line for those is looooooooooong. |

You gets these lard assess in conventions running around with swords.

I hate those guys. | Just for this, I actually respect you. Also, I looked at getting a commissioned katana, but those run from $1,000 to $2,000 with all the transport and time necessary. My katana is just heavy as fuck, so I want to get a new one. Oh, and post a link to that Kanja Taeko Fujiwara GM, I couldnt find anything about it on the net. |

| Absolutely not. Most standard katana are the same absolute weight, or close, but the specific balance and make of each creates a unique apparent weight. My katana is very heavy towards the tip and the support at the hilt...pathetic. I only bought it because i liked the movie it was in, but it actually is really bad. |
